Hi! I’m Sofia from Brazil!
I am a student at TUFS’ School of Japan Studies that joined the fencing club during the 2021’s fall semester.
I am from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and it’s my first time living abroad. I decided to come to Japan because I think living a broad is a great opportunity to experience life in its fullest. I am still getting used to many things here, but I think I might be doing well in living by myself.
Different from Rio de Janeiro, the winter is really cold and I miss the hot weather and sunny days.
I like sports but I never played them in a club. When I was in high school I used to play handball a lot in physical education class.
This is my first time having contact with fencing. Before joining the club, I have only watched fencing on TV during the Olympic Games, which I really enjoy.
My friend Chiara from Italy introduced me this club, so I decided to join her. It’s an amazing opportunity for me. I enjoy sports, and I think being in a club is great to have a real Japanese educational experience.
In Brazil it’s difficult to have such things as clubs, so I was concerned that I wouldn’t be able to join any here at TUFS. However, I really liked the environment of the club and felt welcomed.
My club senpais are always teaching me the correct movements and have a lot of patience to correct what I’m doing wrong.
I have never thought that fencing was so difficult, even though it’s a really cool sport. I still have many things to learn and improve, so I’ll give my best!
